Facts About SBCGlobal

In this article, we’ll discuss SBC, SBCGlobal email, and more. We’ll take a brief look at the history of SBC, how to access your SBCGlobal email, and more!

So, if you’ve always wondered what SBCGlobal means or were simply curious about its history, read on.

The Meaning Behind SBCGlobal

Southwestern Bell Corporation was a telephone company born out of the breakup of the AT&T Corporation due to an antitrust lawsuit in 1984. In 1984, the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T), which was the largest telephone company in the US (and the world!), was broken up into different regional bell companies, and it transferred ownership of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company to Southwestern Bell Corporation (SBC). The Southwestern Bell Telephone Company was a major telephone provider in the US and the leading subsidiary of SBC.

In 1995, SBC changed its name to SBC Communications. Then, in 1999, it started branding itself as the SBC Global Network. Thus, SBCGlobal was born.

However, in 2005, SBC purchased AT&T for $16 billion. It then decided to give up its SBC name and simply adopted the branding of AT&T, which is the modern AT&T that we have today, which provides telecommunications, digital TV, and internet services.

Current Status of SBCGlobal

SBCGlobal was an email service that has been managed by AT&T since the transition of SBCGlobal to AT&T. While it doesn’t support new user signups, old users who still have an SBCGlobal.net email account can still log into it via AT&T.

The Relationship Between SBCGlobal and AT&T

SBCGlobal purchased AT&T and adopted AT&T as its brand name. In simpler words, the two merged together. So basically, they are the same thing. That’s why AT&T currently manages old SBCGlobal.net emails.

Uses of SBCGlobal.net

SBCGlobal.net is a webmail service managed by AT&T. With an SBCGlobal.net or AT&T email, you can sign in on the AT&T website and send and receive emails. It offers all of the uses and benefits you would expect from any other webmail service, such as Yahoo or Outlook.

Facts About SBCGlobal 3

You can retrieve SBCGlobal email and manage your SBCGlobal account through AT&T. Log on through Currently, which is the email service provided by AT&T. Just click on the Sign In button at the top right of the screen, enter your SBCGlobal email address (such as yourname@sbcglobal.net), and enter your password to sign in.

Conclusion: The Legacy and Future of SBCGlobal

SBCGlobal has left a legacy that is currently staying alive thanks to AT&T. It was born out of the breakup of the bell system and the old American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T), which dominated the telephone industry and was broken up due to an antitrust ruling.

Nowadays, there are many telephone companies in the US, including AT&T, which is no longer the world’s largest telephone service provider but just one of many telephone companies in the US.

The future of the SBCGlobal email service is unclear. You can still log into it on AT&T.com, but I recommend transitioning to a new email service provider, such as Gmail or Outlook, which both have a clear future.
