Are you looking for a way to change your AirPods’ volume individually? It can be incredibly frustrating if one of your AirPods sounds louder than the other. In this guide, I will show you how to adjust your AirPods volume balance so that they are even and both have the same volume.

Can You Change the Volume of Each AirPod Individually?

Yes. There is a way to adjust your individual AirPods’ volume control. You can make the right AirPod louder than the left, for example. While the default volume is balanced between the two, there is a way to control the volume separately. Read on to learn how.

How to Adjust the Audio Balance on AirPods on an iPhone

On an iPhone, you can adjust the audio balance by going to Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual and looking for the balance slider. Drag it to exactly the middle to make sure that the audio balance is even.

If you want to make the audio louder in one AirPod over the other, drag it to one of the sides. For example, drag it towards the right if you want the audio to be louder on the right side rather than the left.

How to Adjust the Audio Balance on AirPods on an Android

Similarly, on an Android, go to Settings > Shortcuts & Accessibility > Audio Adjustment and drag the slider to either side to make the sound louder on that side. To keep it even, keep the slider in the middle.

If you can’t find the slider, search for “Audio Adjustment” or “Audio Balance” in your settings.

How to Adjust the Audio Balance on AirPods on a Mac

To adjust your audio balance on a Mac, go to Apple menu > System Settings > Accessibility > Audio and find the slider in the Balance section. There, you can adjust the balance by moving the slider to either side.

On a Windows, you can change the AirPods volume individually by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings > System > Sound.
  2. Click on More Sound Settings.
  3. Select your AirPods.
  4. Click on Properties.
  5. Select the Levels tab.
  6. Click on Balance next to the slider.
  7. You will see two sliders, one for the right and one for the left. You can slide each one according to how you want each side to act.

If the two sliders can’t be changed separately, and each slider moves together with the other, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows + R keys.
  2. Type regedit and hit Enter.
  3. Type this path into the bar at the top of the window: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Bluetooth\Audio\AVRCP\CT
  4. Click on DisableAbsoluteVolume and change the value from 0 to 1 and save your settings.
  5. Restart your computer, and then follow the above steps again to change the sound settings.

How to Change AirPods Volume Using Siri

It’s easy to control your AirPods volume with Siri. Just say “Hey Siri” to activate Siri, and then tell Siri to turn the volume up or down or ask it to set it to a specific volume (like 70%).

If you want to adjust the audio balance slider, tell Siri to “Open Audio and Visual Settings.” Siri will open these accessibility settings so you can easily adjust the slider manually.

Why Is One AirPod Louder Than the Other?

There are a few other reasons why one AirPod may be louder than the other apart from your accessibility settings.

Another common cause is that one AirPod is simply dirty. Dust or earwax can easily block noise in one AirPod, causing the volume to sound uneven. Try cleaning the AirPod with a damp cloth. If that doesn’t help, use a toothbrush to gently brush the mesh. If that doesn’t help, use your mouth to suck out the dust from the mesh.

You might also want to consider resetting your AirPods settings. To do that, you would need to perform a complete reset. This will also cause an audio settings reset.

To reset your AirPods, follow these steps:

  1. Put your AirPods in their charging case.
  2. Close the lid and wait 30 seconds.
  3. On your paired iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
  4. Find your AirPods in the My Devices list. Click on the More Info button next to your AirPods and click on Forget This Device. Tap again to confirm. (If you can’t find the AirPods in your settings, simply proceed to the next step.)
  5. Open the lid of your charging case. Then:
    1. On AirPods 1–3 and AirPods Pro 1–2, press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for around 15 seconds, until the status light flashes amber and white.
    2. On AirPods Pro 3 or AirPods 4, double-tap the front of the case, which will cause the status light to flash white. Double-tap again, which will cause it to flash faster. Finally, double-tap a third time until it flashes amber and then white.

Accessibility Features for AirPods Audio Customization

AirPods have a wide range of built-in accessibility features, including:

Can You Change AirPods Volume on Android Devices?

When using AirPods on an Android, you can adjust the volume just like you can with any connected earphones on an Android. Simply use the volume buttons to adjust the volume, or use the volume slider if you want one side to be louder than the other.

Conclusion

I hope this guide provided some clarity on how to change your AirPods’ volume individually. While it may not be immediately apparent, you can do this from your accessibility settings or your audio settings, depending on your device and operating system.
