How to Remove Widgetsmith Label?

Widgetsmith is a popular iPhone app that lets you add personalized widgets to your iPhone’s home screen. It allows you to add calendars, countdowns, photos, solar trackers, weather forecasts, and lots of other cool widgets to your home screen, so you can view important information at any time.

Widgetsmith is one of the best home screen customization apps, but there’s one thing about it that can be annoying. Under each widget you add to your home screen, you will see the label “Widgetsmith.”

Unfortunately, I am sorry to bear the bad news that there is no way to remove this label or change it! On X, David Smith, the developer of Widgetsmith, said the following in response to someone asking this question:

“Unfortunately not.  Apple requires that the app name be below every widget.”

In addition, on the Widgetsmith website, in the FAQs, Widgetsmith says the following:

“Unfortunately, no. Apple’s iOS requires the app name to be listed underneath each app and widget.”

That means that you can’t remove or edit the label.

However, the good news is that on iPadOS, widgets do not have labels underneath them. So, if you are using Widgetsmith on an iPad, you won’t face that problem.

Removing a Widget From iOS 16 Home Screen

Removing a widget from your home screen is fairly easy. To remove a widget on iOS 16, tap and hold on the widget and click on Remove Widget. Click on Remove once again to confirm. That will delete the widget from your iPhone.

If you want to delete a Widgetsmith widget, go to My Widgets in the Widgetsmith app. Pinch and hold on the widget and click on Delete Widget.

Editing Widget Appearance and Information in Widgetsmith

There are a few ways to change a Widgetsmith widget’s layout. You can edit the Widgetsmith’s widget appearance by adding an aesthetic. In the Widgetsmith app, select a widget, press it, and scroll down until you see Aesthetic/Theme. You can choose a theme and even click on Customize Theme to customize the background color, tint color, and more. Available customization options will depend on the theme.

You can also choose from three sizes for your widgets. Pinch and hold on the rounded controls just outside the widget to change the size.

Troubleshooting Common Widgetsmith Issues

Let’s wrap things up with some common troubleshooting problems people have when using Widgetsmith.

  • I see a gray box instead of a widget: If you see a gray box, you might have deleted the widget. Hard press on the gray box, click on Edit Widget, and choose a new widget.
  • I see a black box instead of a widget: This usually happens with photo widgets when Widgetsmith doesn’t have access to your library. Make sure that Widgetsmith has access to your Photos by going to the Widgetsmith settings and clicking on App Privacy Permissions.
  • A widget is not updating: If a time widget is not updating, restart your phone.
  • A weather widget is not loading: If a weather widget is not updating, you may need to update your iOS version.
  • You just installed Widgetsmith, but don’t see it as an option when selecting widgets: Restart your phone.

Conclusion

Widgetsmith is one of the best ways to personalize your iPhone’s home screen. Unfortunately, while the iPhone widgets themselves are customizable, you can’t remove or customize the Widgetsmith label that appears under Widgetsmith widgets. This is only a problem on iPhones, though, as on iPads, labels don’t appear under widgets.
