If your HomePod refuses to turn on, there are a few things you can do. Start with some basic troubleshooting steps to check if the power outlet or cable is damaged. Then, try to reset or restore the HomePod, using the steps I will show you below. If all else fails, you can contact Apple’s support team. Continue reading for the details.

Basic Troubleshooting for HomePod Power Issues

If experiencing power issues, the first thing to do is to check the power connection and ensure that you have plugged in the cable all the way into the HomePod and all the way into the outlet; it is also important to check that the outlet is working properly and that you have electricity in your house. Try plugging it into another outlet to see if it might be the outlet that is broken, and of course, check that you have electricity in the house. Also, try using another cable to see if the cable is damaged; ideally, you should use an Apple cable and adapter and not a third party cable or adapter.

If you still can not power on the HomePod that you have after you have already tried checking the cable, adapter, and power outlet for faultiness, the next step is to try restarting your HomePod forcefully using your iPhone to see if that may fix the problem and restore power to your HomePod. Doing that is very easy, as you can do it in the Home app of your iPhone or iPad, where you can select the HomePod that you want to reset and click on the Settings icon to get to the settings. There, you can click on Restart HomePod or, if you see the Rest HomePod option, click on Reset HomePod and then on Restart HomePod. However, if you are not seeing any of those two options in the HomePod app, I suggest unplugging the HomePod, plugging it back in to a working outlet, and then opening the HomePod app and trying again.

Resetting HomePod to Factory Settings

If that doesn’t work, the next step is to try to reset your HomePod to factory settings. Note that if you have a stereo pair setup with two HomePods, you will need to remove the stereo pair first.

To ungroup the stereo pair, go to the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Click on the pair of HomePods in the stereo pair, click on the Settings icon, and click on Ungroup Accessories.

To reset your HomePod, follow these steps:

Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Click on your HomePad, tap the Settings icon, and select Reset HomePod > Remove Accessory. If you see a white spinning light at the top of your HomePod, that means the reset is in progress. Wait until the light goes off, which indicates a successful reset.

If you don’t see a white spinning light, you can reset the HomePod manually without using the Home app. To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Unplug the HomePod.
  2. Wait at least 10 seconds and then plug it back in.
  3. Wait another 10 seconds and touch and hold your finger at the top of the HomePod.
  4. The white spinning light will turn red, but continue holding your finger down.
  5. Siri will say that your HomePod will reset. Continue holding your finger down.
  6. Once you hear three beeps, lift your finger, as that indicates the reset was successful.

Finally, if you have HomePod Mini, you can also restore it using your Mac or PC. Plug it into your computer using a USB-C cable. Then, open the Finder app on your Mac. If you have Windows, open the Apple Devices or iTunes app. Select your HomePod in the app and click on Restore HomePod.

Contacting Apple Support for Repairs

If the HomePod is still not powering on after you have already tried to do everything that I told you to do in this article, and if you can not get it to reset, or if it is overheating or making weird or strange noises, the best thing to do is to unplug the HomePod, stop using it, and get in touch with Apple Support, who will be able to fix the HomePod or advise on the next steps.

You can schedule an appointment at a service center or send it in by mail. See more information here

Conclusion

We hope this guide helped you fix your HomePod power issues. Remember, if you can’t restart or reset your HomePod, contact Apple Support. Depending on when you bought it and what the issue is, it may still be under the warranty and be eligible for a free repair.
