The HomePod and HomePod Mini are smart home speakers created by Apple. While they offer excellent sound quality, there may be times when you want to improve your HomePod’s sound quality. In this article, I will discuss enhancing your HomePod’s bass.
Understanding the HomePod Mini’s Acoustic Design
Both the HomePod and the HomePod Mini feature an acoustic design that allows for a 360º sound field. However, the HomePod Mini is a lot smaller and less powerful than the HomePod itself. The HomePod Mini does not allow as much bass as the HomePod. So, if you need a lot of bass, and you are still deciding which one to purchase, go for the HomePod, not the HomePod Mini.
Using the “Reduce Bass” Feature
Unfortunately, the HomePod and HomePod Mini do not have a built-in way to increase the bass. However, there is a way to reduce your HomePod’s bass. If you feel like your HomePod does not have enough bass, it is worth checking if this feature has been turned on accidentally.
Go to the Home app and select your HomePod. Scroll down and click on the gear icon at the bottom. There, you will be able to toggle the Reduce Bass feature on or off. If it is toggled on, that is the reason you are not getting enough bass, so toggle it off.
Enhancing Bass with Equalizer Settings
Although the HomePod does not offer built-in features to increase the bass, you can boost your HomePod’s bass via the Apple Music app, if you are using the Apple Music app to play music. It offers equalizer settings that allow you to increase the bass.
- Open the Settings app.
- Click on Music.
- Click on “EQ” under Playback.
- Click on Bass Booster.
Other music apps may have their own bass booster settings.
Utilizing Placement for Better Bass Performance

Another option is enhancing the bass through proper positioning. Make sure your HomePod is placed in a good location. Keep it at least a foot away from walls. Proper HomePod placement will ensure that the sound quality is good. Put it on a flat and hard surface, like a wood counter or table, instead of on the carpet.
Combining HomePods for Stereo Bass Effect
Did you know that you can set up two HomePods as a stereo set? Pairing HomePods together can improve the bass and overall sound quality, as you will have two HomePods working in synergy.
To do that, you will need two HomePods or HomePod Minis. They must be assigned to the same room in the Home app.
Follow these steps to pair them together:
- Open the Home app.
- Click on a HomePod.
- Click on the gear icon to access the settings.
- Click on Create Stereo Pair.
- Follow the instructions.
Conclusion
It’s somewhat unfortunate that there is no built-in way to enhance the HomePod’s bass. However, you can still optimize bass performance in the Apple Music app. Furthermore, you can improve the HomePod’s sound through proper positioning or by setting up two HomePods as a stereo pair.
